Circulation Policies

Check-out Limits

New books may be borrowed for two weeks. There is a limit of 4 new fiction and 4 new nonfiction books per card. Books, magazines, audios, and cds may be borrowed for three weeks. New DVDs are limited to 3 per card and may only be checked out for ONE WEEK. Other DVDs may be borrowed for two weeks and there is no per card limit. Museum passes may be borrowed for two days. There is a limit of 1 pass per family at a time.

Interlibrary Loans

Interlibrary loan (or ILL) is a free service provided to all Connecticut library patrons and allows a user in good standing to borrow materials from participating libraries throughout the state.

New books may only be renewed once for two weeks.
Books, magazines, audios and cds may be renewed once for three weeks. Renewals will not be allowed if there is a hold on the book.
Renewals may be made by phone, in person, or online.
No renewals are allowed on any DVDs or museum passes. Interlibrary loan materials renewal is dependent on the owner library.

Holds may be placed on items that are currently out in circulation. You may request a hold via the phone, email, our LION system, or in person at either the main desk or children's department.


There will be a charge of ten cents per day for overdue books, audios, cds and magazines in both the adult and children's department. There is a maximum fine of three dollars each for books, magazines, audios, and CDs.

DVDs, museum passes, and interlibrary loans will incur a one dollar fine per day.
There is a maximum fine of five dollars each for DVDs, museum passes, and Interlibrary loans.

Library cards will be blocked if fines exceed five dollars. Payment may be made by cash or check.

Lost Materials

Payment for the item must be made in full by cash or check only. If the item is an Interlibary loan item, the replacement cost and method of payment will be determined by the owning library.

Blocks on Card

Library cards may be blocked and unable to use by the patron due to outstanding fines, overdues, lost items and/or expired cards. Items to be checked out will be held for three days to allow the patron time to settle the account.


Vacation loans are available on selected items.
